Phillip Karp’s approach to image making is best described by its ever
changing freedom to explore a visual language. His personal praxis allows
him to reach towards the vast range of theoretical possibilities through new
methods and experiences. Karp’s work questions how we see and how we
communicate seeing. Through this, he encourages the viewer to reflect on
the act of looking itself, emphasizing observation as a complex, continuous
process. Is truth in the literal description of what we know? Or is truth in
how it appears to us that is dependent on context?
Phillip Karp was born in New York City and currently based in Miami, Florida. Karp recently debuted his first solo exhibition, the way out is through, in the window of a Walgreens on Miami Beach.
